What is Small Batch Manufacturing?
Small batch manufacturing refers to the production of products in relatively small quantities. This mode of production is often used for customized products, prototype development or market testing.
Small batch manufacturing is a process in the manufacturing phase where similar components are produced together to allow for greater flexibility than traditional high volume production methods. Using the small batch model, you can more easily identify errors and make changes for each version of a product, and because relatively small quantities are produced, the quality of each product is more assured, making it suitable for pre-market testing of new products and reducing risk.
Advantages of Small Batch Manufacturing
Improved Quality Control: If there is a problem with your design, you can identify it faster and reduce the defect rate by manufacturing in small batches.
Greater Flexibility: if a new trend emerges, you can quickly adjust production to meet market demand or specific customer requirements
More Affordable: since you produce fewer components and parts, small-lot manufacturing saves you money.
Reduced Risk: you can test the market acceptance of new products before investing large amounts of money, reducing the risk of failure
Design Tips for Small Batch Manufacturing
Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Considering the production process at the design stage reduces potential production issues.
Rapid Prototyping: Use 3D printing or other rapid prototyping techniques to create samples for testing and iteration
Reusable Design: Design reusable components or materials to reduce costs and improve environmental friendliness.
Consider Production Flow: Optimize the layout of production lines to reduce production time and waste of resources.
