“QUALITY COMES NOT FROM INSPECTION, BUT FROM IMPROVEMENT OF THE PRODUCTION PROCESS.”
To DEK, Dr. Deming’s textbook remark is not a theory, but a practice we have been conducting every single day. We work on the principle that quality comes during the process of manufacturing, not after the fact.
We use advanced production technologies and strict control systems to ensure high quality. More importantly, the quality-oriented attitude has been so entrenched in the mind of every single employee.
Through the online form or send an email to austin@dekmake.com directly, and please describe your requirements in detail and attach 2D/3D drawings, then you will get our reply within 6 hours.
Yes! Other suppliers are afraid of precision parts, but we like precision parts very much. This is because we have rich experience in the production of precision mold components, the tolerance we did can reach ±0.001mm, which is impossible for 99.9% of prototype manufacturers.
Definitely! Our predecessor is precision machining shop, and 100% inspection of each part is our daily basic work. We will check the size, tolerance, color, and other details before leaving the factory. If you need an inspection report, we will send it with goods together.

It's our honor to be their best partner
This is my second time ordering machined UHMW parts as well as parts from other thermoplastics, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. DEK has the most cutting-edge CNC technology available on the market, so I really believe you can’t find a better value for the price.
Paul L.
I’ve struggled so much with suppliers and manufacturers in the past until I discovered DEK. I ordered a large batch of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene parts, and everything went flawless. From the communication to the turnaround time - I couldn’t recommend them more!

Let’s make sure we cover all the bases and answer all the most frequently asked questions regarding machining UHMW parts.
Table of Contents
What Is UHMW?
UHMW stands for Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene. That’s a type of thermoplastic or semi-crystalline polymer with great resistance to abrasion and impact. UHMW is one of the most popular and commonly used industrial plastics.
As a high-density plastic, UHMW has the highest impact strength of all thermoplastics. Because of this strength, UHMW is great for applications like screw machine parts.
UHMW works well in dry and wet environments since it has a very low water absorption rate. It’s also suitable for cold environments but not for warm or hot since heat makes it start softening.
Is UHMW the Same as Teflon?
Teflon is the brand name for PTFE or Polytetrafluoroethylene. On the other hand, UHMW stands for Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene, which is a different type of plastic.
Although both Teflon and UHMW are plastics that are often white and safe for direct food contact, they have different applications.
Namely, UHMW is a mechanical grade plastic which makes it much tougher and resistant to wear, compression, and impact. On the other hand, Teflon is a softer plastic that isn’t suitable for machinery applications.
The other difference is the cost. Teflon is about ten times the price of UHMW due to the different manufacturing processes and the necessity of heat.
On the subject of heat, that’s yet another difference between the two. Teflon has a high operating temperature of about 500 degrees Fahrenheit, while UHMW stands at 180.
What Is the Difference between UHMW and Polyethylene?
Polyethylene or PE is by far the most common plastic that we use today. It’s a type of polymer used in packaging and containers such as plastic bags or plastic bottles.
There are many different types of Polyethylene, depending on their molecular weight and density.
UHMW is just one of many different types of Polyethylene, all with different properties and applications.
What Is the Difference between HDPE and UHMW?
UHMW and HDPE are both forms of Polyethylene.
UHMW stands for Ultra-High-Molecular Weight Polyethylene, while HDPE stands for High-Density Polyethylene.
Both are plastics that are abrasion- and chemical-resistant, but they have different applications.
HDPE is easy to machine and weld, and it’s often used in prosthetics or orthotics. On the other hand, UHMW is better for bearings and friction, so it’s often used in wear strips, high-speed conveyors, guide rails, etc.
Can UHWM Be Machined?
Yes! UHMW can be machined using CNC machines. However, it’s not an easy material to work with since it expands 12 times more than steel.
All that aside, UHMW is a great material in terms of resistance to wear and abrasion. A well-machined UHMW part can outlive nylons, metals, or fluoroplastics.
At DEK, we use 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis CNC milling machines and CNC turning to manufacture the perfect UHMW parts. Our highly controlled process guarantees superior surface smoothness and quality of all parts.
We work with the highest complexity and tight tolerances, so we can manufacture the most high-precision parts for all types of applications and industries.
What Are the Advantages of UHMW Machined Parts?
UHMW machined parts have many advantages and benefits over other types of plastics. Let’s take a look at them:
High wear resistance
UHMW machined parts enjoy a high wear resistance due to their ultra-high molecular weight and their superior molecular bonding.
Low friction
UHMW also has a low friction level which makes the material suitable for parts that need a smooth surface finishing or parts with a glide or slide motion.
High force impact and shock tolerance
The high molecular density of UHMW parts makes them resistant to shocks, sudden mechanical vibrations, and other types of forceful external impacts.
Non-toxic
UHMW is non-toxic, and it’s suitable for food applications and things like medical devices. UHMW parts also don’t release any toxic by-products or fumes.
Erosion and abrasion resistance
UHMW has 15 times more abrasion resistance than carbon steel. On top of that, it’s resistant to many acids, bases, and corrosive chemicals, giving it incredible longevity. However, beware that oxidizing acids can damage UHMW.
No water absorption
And finally, UHMW machined parts have a close-to-zero water absorption, making them ideal for applications in dry as well as wet conditions and even underwater applications.
What Are the Applications of UHMW Machined Parts?
Here are the most common applications of UHMW machined parts:
High-speed conveyors
Guide rails and wear strips
Parts for packaging machinery
Hopper, chute, and truck bed liners
Idler sprockets and star wheels
Parts for food processing machinery
High-speed conveyors
Dock fenders, pile guards, and bumpers
Medical devices
Marine components
Semiconductor devices
Chain guides, wear plates, and other MRO parts
