introduction
Vacuum(Urethane) Casting Services for Prototypes or Custom Parts
Vacuum casting is a prototyping process that uses silicone molds to quickly create urethane cast parts for the production of small batches of functional parts.
For small batch manufacturing, polyurethane vacuum casting is a fast, cost-effective way to produce 10-200 production-quality parts. Typically, 20-25 castings can be produced per silicone mold.
DEK's polyurethane casting services are ideally suited for overmolding complex plastic parts with deliveries as fast as 7 days. We use a soft-mold approach to provide high-quality functional and end-use parts for low-volume production, allowing for virtually unlimited complexity, including sharp inside corners that are impossible to achieve with CNC machining, as well as designs with no pullout slopes or uniform wall thicknesses for injection molding.
- Maximum accuracy of ±0.05 mm
- Standard tolerances of ±0.15mm/100mm
- Accommodates 2.0M*1.2M*1.0M mold sizes
- Minimum wall thickness is 0.5mm, preferably 1.5mm~2.5mm

Instant & Accurate Quotes
We don't use online automated quotation tools, because it is very inaccurate. Online quote platforms rely solely on calculations based on cutting amounts and fixed coefficients, they fail to account for actual processing nuances, such as material deformation after heat treatment, tight tolerance requirements, grinding after heat treatment, etc. Consequently, automated price calculations can lead to inaccuracies, ultimately increasing your costs.
But you can rest assured at DEK!
Our quotations are both cost-effective and accurate because we have a team of professional mechanical engineers who meticulously review each drawing. Knowledge of Vacuum Casting
What is Vacuum Casting?
Vacuum casting, also known as silicone casting, is a fast, cost-effective alternative for producing small batches of injection molded parts. Usually 3D printed SLA parts are used as prototypes, while the molds are made of silicone material, and the specified material is poured to make the remolded parts through the process of vacuum injection molding. The manufacturing principle of vacuum casting is similar to injection molding in that a mold is used to replicate the same part, but the manufacturing process is very different.
The material and the silicone mold are placed into the vacuum laminating together. The vacuum low-pressure environment helps to eliminate air bubbles in the mold and ensures a smooth surface effect. Depending on the customer's requirements, technicians can perform other post-treatments on the parts, such as sandblasting, oil blasting, polishing and more.
How Vacuum Casting Works?
Making the Master Mold: First, make the master mold using CNC machining or 3D printing (SLA). The accuracy of the vacuum manufactured part depends a lot on the master mold, so you can choose to polish or sand the surface to make the master mold more precise
Making the Silicone Mold: After completing and checking the master mold, we will start making the silicone mold. The master is placed in a casting box, liquid silicone is poured to fill the casting box, and then the unit is placed in an oven preheated to 40°C to cure for 10-16 hours. After drying, the silicone molds are carefully removed by cutting with a knife. If it is difficult to remove the mold, a mold release agent can be used.
Vacuum Pouring: Finally, liquid polyurethane or silicone is poured into the silicone molds, which are then placed in the chamber to help remove air bubbles from the liquid material. Once cured, the silicone halves are separated and the newly formed portion is removed. Silicone molds are usually suitable for making about 20 copies of a master mold.
Advantages of Vacuum Casting
High Efficiency: It can produce prototypes or small-lot products quickly and effectively, eliminating the time for mold opening, shortening the product development cycle, and greatly improving production efficiency.
High Precision: It can highly restore the details and dimensions of the product, and produce high-precision prototypes or small-lot products, which is conducive to subsequent production and quality control.
Low Cost: It uses relatively affordable raw materials and can be reused, and processing costs are much lower than CNC machining and 3D printing.
Flexibility: It can be flexibly adjusted for different product requirements and production needs, process parameters and production programs, adaptability.
Environmental Protection: The raw materials used in the silicone lamination process are non-toxic and odorless, and the production process does not produce harmful substances, in line with environmental requirements.
