introduction

PP Homopolymer in CNC Machining and Injection Molding

PP Homopolymer part(1)

PP homopolymer is the standard grade of Polypropylene (PP). It is a thermoplastic polymer with excellent chemical resistance and fatigue strength.

Compared to copolymer, it has a higher strength-to-weight ratio. PPH is ideal when you need resistance to impact, corrosion, and good weldability. Machining polypropylene can be more challenging due to its tendency to gall and melt. We use non-aromatic, water-soluble coolants to achieve ideal surface finishes and close tolerances, as well as extend the tool life. PPH is sensitive to temperature changes, exhibiting variable thermal expansion. To minimize the impact, we avoid pressurized air and spray mists.

Annealing Polypropylene is important because PP, like other polymers, tends to deform due to its low annealing temperature when subjected to heat and pressure during machining. At DEK, we minimize the risk of such deformities by employing an annealing process that significantly reduces stress caused by the heat generated during machining. Our machinists utilize computer-controlled annealing ovens to ensure precise and high-quality machining results.

TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW

Basic Knowledge of PP Homopolymer

What is PP Homopolymer?

PP Homopolymer refers to polypropylene homopolymer, a type of polymer made from the monomer propylene. Polypropylene (PP) is a versatile material with high chemical resistance, low density, good heat resistance, and a high melting point. In the case of PP homopolymer, the polymer chain consists of repeating units of propylene monomers. The term "homopolymer" indicates that the polymer is composed of only one type of monomer, as opposed to copolymers, which consist of two or more different monomers. PPH is a strong and durable thermoplastic resin with excellent stiffness.

FAQ

Machining PP Homopolymer Buying FAQs

PPH is made solely from propylene monomers, resulting in a single type of polymer with a higher melting point and superior chemical resistance when compared to Copolymer PP. On the other hand, Copolymer PP is a blend of propylene and ethylene monomers, offering enhanced impact resistance and transparency in comparison to Homopolymer PP.
Yes, PPH is generally considered safe for use with hot water. It has good temperature resistance and can withstand hot water without significantly degrading or leaching harmful substances.
Yes, PPH is safe to melt within its specified temperature range during processing. However, following proper melting and molding guidelines is important to prevent overheating, which can lead to degradation and affect the material properties.
While burning any plastic material can release potentially harmful substances, PPH is generally considered to have a low toxicity when burned.
Yes, PPH is recyclable. It falls under the category of plastics that can be recycled through various processes. Recycling helps reduce environmental impact and conserves resources by reusing the material to create new products.
