Tungsten Steel YG6 in CNC Machining

Tungsten Steel YG6 is a type of tungsten carbide with exceptional hardness and wear resistance.
The material, which contains cobalt as a binder, is known for its toughness and strength. YG6 is suitable for general-purpose cutting applications across various materials such as metals, wood, plastics, and composites. It's ideal for drawing steel with a diameter below 20mm under low stress conditions. It's also used for controlling pipes under 10mm made of non-ferrous metal wires, their wires, or rods.
YG6 is definitely strong and has good impact resistance. When using YG6 in CNC machining, DEK adheres to recommended cutting speeds, feeds, and depth of cut for optimal performance. Efficient coolant or lubrication manages the high temperatures generated during machining. Proper tool geometry and maintenance are also key factors influencing the quality and longevity of cutting tools made from Tungsten Steel YG6.

Basic Knowledge of Tungsten Steel YG6
What is Tungsten Steel YG6?
YG6 is a grade designation for tungsten carbide, a hard and durable material commonly used in cutting tools, drilling equipment, and more. Tungsten carbide is a composite material consisting of tungsten (W) and carbon (C) atoms, forming a hard and brittle crystalline structure. The "YG6" designation specifically refers to a particular grade of tungsten carbide.
In the International Standard ISO 513:2012, tungsten carbide grades are classified based on their composition and properties. The "YG" prefix typically indicates a cemented carbide, and the number following it (in this case, "6") provides information about the specific characteristics of the material. For YG6, the "6" likely indicates that the tungsten carbide has a certain combination of hardness, strength, and wear resistance properties.
