Aluminio 5083 en Mecanizado CNC

Aluminum 5083 is a corrosion-resistant, high-strength, non-heat-treatable alloy commonly used in CNC machining. It is commonly used in marine applications due to its resistance to saltwater corrosion.
Its machinability is good, but challenges may arise due to its high strength, necessitating appropriate tooling. Carbide tools, particularly those with coatings like TiN, are preferred for their durability. High cutting speeds are recommended to minimize tool wear and the use of coolant aids in dissipating heat. Secure clamping and proper chip control prevent workpiece deformation and tool breakage. Feeds and speeds should be optimized based on machining requirements, and tool path strategies like climb milling can enhance surface finishes.
The chemical composition of 5083 aluminum is specified as follows: Aluminium constitutes the balance of the alloy, while other elements are present in limited amounts. Chromium ranges from 0.05% to a maximum of 0.25%, copper is limited to 0.1%, iron to 0.4%, magnesium is between 4.0% and 4.9%, manganese ranges from 0.4% to 1.0%, silicon is limited to 0.4%, titanium to a maximum of 0.15%, and zinc is restricted to 0.25%.
