W-Ni-Cu Series (ASTM) en Mecanizado CNC

The W-Ni-Cu series, also known as tungsten heavy alloys (WHAs), is a group of materials composed mainly of tungsten (W), with nickel (Ni) and copper (Cu) making up the rest.
These alloys are valued for their high density. CNC machining of W-Ni-Cu alloys is possible but requires specialized tools due to tungsten's hardness. Machinability is improved with the addition of nickel and copper. Carbide or diamond tools are commonly used, and cutting speeds must be reduced to avoid tool wear. The use of coolant is essential to dissipate heat during machining.
Achieving a smooth surface finish may require post-machining processes like grinding or polishing. DEK strictly follows safety precautions when machining due to the potential hazards of tungsten dust. Specific machining parameters depend on the alloy's composition.

Conocimientos básicos of W-Ni-Cu Series(ASTM)
What is W-Ni-Cu Series (ASTM)?
The W-Ni-Cu series refers to tungsten heavy alloys that consist of tungsten (W), nickel (Ni), and copper (Cu). These alloys are known for their high density, excellent radiation shielding properties, and good mechanical strength. The ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) specifications provide standards for these materials to ensure their quality and performance in various applications.
W90Ni6Cu4, W93Ni4Cu3, and W95Ni3.5Cu1.5 are from the W-Ni-Cu series. W90Ni6Cu4 means that the alloy is composed of 90% tungsten, 6% nickel, and 4% copper by weight. W93Ni4Cu3 is 93% tungsten, 4% nickel, and 3% copper by weight, and then W95Ni3.5Cu1.5 is 95% tungsten, 3.5% nickel, and 1.5% copper by weight.
